Hello there. My name is Seth Compton and I am an artist living in Poland. Right now I am the Director of Arts and Culture at a primary school and I am teaching middle and high school drama. I’m also the creative director of a start up arts organization. I have been using this site to document some of the projects and research I have been working on over the last two years. It is my intention to share more written ideas, brainstorm new concepts, and connect some dots. Essentially sharing the process of how I make art and performance my life practice. As you can see I have not been faithfully updating it. Process.
I would like the site to be an exciting cocktail of storytelling, reflections on time-based art, empathy, organization building, compassionate leadership, movements, marketing, web 2.0 technologies, and design. While each of these are fascinating areas on their own I am curious how they can all blend together to help small art theater have a relevant engagement with content, form and audiences.
My links page will eventually show some of the places I go to read and I’ll always be giving a hat tip to credit where my ideas first spark. But right off the bat, let me thank Kevin Kelley, Seth Godin, Adam Thurman, and Andy Horwitz for throwing down the gauntlet and making me feel like it’s time.
Biography
Seth Compton is from Franklin, Massachusetts; home of one of America’s first public libraries. Seth has trained and worked professionally with the critically acclaimed Polish theater company, Teatr Pieśń Kozła, who were recently awarded the Scotsman Fringe First Award and the Herald Archangel Award at Edinburgh Fringe Fest 2012. Seth is a founding member of L’Enfant Terrible, a touring company from Los Angeles devoted to making amazing, entertaining and subversive theater for all ages. In California, Seth was a company member of Theater Banshee and the Actors’ Gang and worked with the Ensemble Theater, Celtic Arts Center and All Spot Co. Notably on the east coast Seth worked with Trinity Repertory, Central Square Theater, and North Shore Music Theater. Currently he is building Aardvark Arts – an international foundation for artist management, design services, and the further development of his creative research. Seth is the leader of Open Your Heart – a workshop blending the principles of physical theater, neutral masks, and commedia del arte. Seth received a NextGen grant in 2011 and 2012 from the Center for Cultural Innovation.
